Dragon tree (Dracaena Draco)

The magnificent and beautiful dragon tree is native to the coast of North Africa and grows wild in the Canary Islands, Cape Verde and Madeira. The evergreen dragon tree is definitely suitable for everyone, as it is easy to care for - it does not need much light and is modest in terms of watering. The thick trunk branches into several small trunks which tops eventually merge into a single main crown.

The dragon tree gets its name from its dark blood-red resin. In the Middle Ages, dragon tree resin was considered a magical medicine that was more expensive than gold in weight. Later, resin was found to act as an excellent wood preservative, leading to large-scale exploitation and large-scale felling of dragon trees. Fortunately, the tree is now protected and is restored to its original habitats. As an indoor tree, dragon trees effectively clean pollutants from the indoor air.

Dragon tree thrives inside and does not require much habitat as long as it has enough space to spread its lowest leaves to full length.
A place that is bright, semi-shady or even shady in terms of light is well suited for the tree. Admittedly, the rate of growth varies depending on how bright or dark place the tree is. In summer, the tree really enjoys a semi-shady place on the terrace or balcony - in winter it wants to spend time in a little cooler place at about 16 - 18 degrees. Tree doesn't handle direct cold or draft well.

Dragon tree likes steady moisture and does not need generous watering. Fertilize from April to October with Kekkilä's Green Grass nutrient according to the instructions on the packaging. The soil is suitable for airy, sandy plant soils.
