Our favorite Mean Girl and rom-com icon Rachel McAdams graced us with a rare red carpet appearance last night, for the 2023 Gotham Awards.

As if her return to the spotlight weren’t shocking enough, the actor walked the red carpet at New York City’s Cipriani Wall Street in a sophisticated sheer black dress by Givenchy. The piece featured a turtleneck and airy long sleeves, as well as ruched details along the center and a big chest cutout. McAdams wore only a thin black thong underneath and no bra. She finished the bold, monochrome look with silky black pointed-toe heels by Aquazzura, a diamond-and-emerald Bulgari Serpenti necklace, and two large emerald-and-diamond rings also by Bulgari.

McAdams kept the rest of her look just as sleek and minimal, opting for a wavy hairdo, natural makeup, a subtle black liner, and a glossy black manicure.

The 33rd Annual Gotham Awards celebrated the year’s best and brightest in independent cinema and television.

The last time McAdams walked a red carpet was in April, before the SAG-AFTRA strike, to attend the Los Angeles premiere of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.—her most critically acclaimed dramedy yet, adapted from Judy Blume’s 1970 novel of the same name—in a vibrant red gown. The piece featured long sleeves, a breezy skirt, and asymmetric cutouts on the shoulder and bodice.

She wore another stunning dress—a black midi with ruched details and a turtleneck—to the world premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in San Diego in May 2022.
