Ant-Man and the Wasp star Evangeline Lilly has grabbed the lead role in Albedo, a mystery drama for Walmart’s online VOD service Vudu and Bell Media in Canada.
Brad Peyton will direct and executive produce the sci-fi crime drama that received a straight-to-series order for Entertainment One, which will also distribute internationally. Writing duo Max and Adam Reid serve as series creators and will also executive produce.
Set 150 years in the future, Albedo will see Lilly play detective Vivien Coleman on the edge of the solar system to investigate a scientist’s mysterious death on board an isolated space station. She soon finds herself trapped and cut off from Earth, along with the station’s small crew of brilliant scientists — all murder suspects and all harboring their own secrets.
Lilly earned a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2006 and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2007 for her role on TV’s Lost. She is repped by UTA and Silver Lining Entertainment.
The Reids are best known for writing the Amazon Prime series Sneaky Pete, and Dark Cargo, executive produced by Ben Stiller and Nicky Weinstock. They are repped by WME, The Cartel and Suzanne DePoe
Peyton directed the Netflix and Discovery Canada series Frontier. He is repped by CAA and The Character’s Talent Agency.
Bell Media will air Albedo in Canada, while Vudu will stream the series stateside.
Walmart’s Vudu on Wednesday also said it will air five other series at NewFronts 2019, including Blue’s Clues & You, a Nickelodeon series to bow on Vudu’s AVOD service before premiering on Nickelodeon in November.
Also headed to Vudu is Adventure Force 5, a live-action TV film about a band of tech-savvy kids produced in partnership with Studio 71 & Zoic, and Turning Point With Randy Jackson, a 10-part reality series from Tiny Horse that sees the former American Idol panel judge on a cross-country talent search.
Vudu also unwrapped Friends in Strange Places, a Queen Latifah-hosted travel show from Flavor Unit Entertainment and Electus.
