This purple stem plant originates from South America. Although it is long known in the aquarium hobby, it is not less interesting. Due to very short internodes, its dark red leaves are set very close together on the stem, which can grow to 15-40 cm so in open aquariums it easily reaches the water surface. To achieve its full color, high light level is required.
