On a sunny day, we received some long-awaited and exciting news at the Port of Roenne! I'm thrilled to announce that we have officially received approval for the plan and environmental framework for stage 4 of our development project. As the Chief Commercial Officer for the Port of Roenne, I know this milestone marks a significant moment for us. It's crucial for Bornholm's development and the modernization of the port, enabling us to accommodate modern vessels and large projects to the benefit of the island. This approval comes after the municipal council gave the green light for our ambitious plans on Tuesday, March 19th, marking another step forward in securing the future of our beloved port. The Port of Roenne holds a special place as Bornholm's commercial port, playing a crucial role in the island's growth and prosperity. With each stage of our development, we're not just building infrastructure; we're creating opportunities, enhancing efficiency, and bolstering our island community. We're also generating direct and indirect job opportunities through our five business areas: Ferries, Cruise, Offshore Wind, Bulk, and port infrastructure rentals. Let's take a closer look at our expansion journey so far: ⚓ Stage 1: Completed in 2019, this phase involved constructing a new harbor section south of the original harbor, a new outer pier, new land and quay areas, and dredging of harbor basins. ⚓ Stage 2: Including Galløkken, completed at the turn of 2022/2023, expanded quay area and associated hinterland to meet the increasing demand for quays and areas capable of handling heavy loads, along with an extension of the new outer pier. ⚓ Stage 3: Expected to be completed by the end of 2024, involves establishing additional land area and a new quay in the area around the former fishing basin in the South Harbor. ⚓ Stage 4: Symbolizing the development of a modern and up-to-date port. This expansion involves significant changes, encapsulating the desire for a better and safer port, creating new quay area, and contributing to the desired functional division of port activities. What does this mean for Bornholm? It's more than just a construction project; it's about added value and revenue streams for our island. By enhancing our capabilities, we're attracting more business, facilitating trade, and contributing to economic growth. It's a win-win for everyone involved. I'm incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as the support from our partners and stakeholders. Together, we're shaping a brighter future for the Port of Roenne and the entire Bornholm community. ------------------------------ 💥 I am Jeppe. ⚓ Chief Commercial Officer, Port of Roenne 🔺 A Windfluencer passionate about renewable energy, offshore wind, innovation, sustainability, and technology. Another fantastic day at work! It's so exciting to be able to finally announce some of the work we have been working on for the past couple of years! Finally, I can shout it out loud from the (wind') towers. We at Port of Roenne can now share that we have struck an agreement with Siemens Gamesa to act as the installation port for wind turbine projects destined for the Baltic Sea, totaling over 1 gigawatt in capacity. These projects represent a significant leap towards boosting green energy production in the Baltic Sea region. Scheduled for commencement before 2030, these projects are expected to take two years to complete. For these endeavors, Siemens Gamesa plans to utilize the advanced (and enormous) SG 14-236 DD wind turbine, featuring a rotor diameter of 236 meters and a capacity of 14 MW, marking a major milestone in offshore wind energy. I am truly looking forward to welcoming Siemens Gamesa back to the harbor after the highly successful Kriegers Flak project. This isn't to say that we're not delighted to have our current tenants Vestas on site, as we are fortunate to have excellent relationships with both Siemens Gamesa and Vestas... and Muehlhan, Mammoet, BMS, BHS, Bluewater Shipping, Jan de Null, Fred Olsen, DEME, Van Oord, or any of the other clients we're so pleased to collaborate with including alle the members from Offshore Center Bornholm. All the companies share the same agenda, namely the green transition and renewable energy, and I am immensely proud that we can land projects of this magnitude and be an active part of the change the world is facing in freeing ourselves from fossil fuels. Together we create! Photo: Siemens Gamesa also spearheaded the Kriegers Flak project, the first shipment project at Port of Roenne, where 72 offshore wind turbines were shipped in 2021, at the time that largest offshore wind project in Northern Europe. It's a fantastic day at the office when you're greeted with a "good morning" from one of the giants of the sea. Today, the Blue Tern arrived at Port of Roenne for its inaugural turbine installation cycle at Baltic Eagle. Fred. Olsen Windcarrier's jack-up vessel, the Blue Tern, was enroute from Esbjerg to Bornholm for turbine installation at the Baltic Eagle project in German waters. The vessel will be installing 50 V174-9.5 Vestas turbines that have been pre-assembled and eagerly waiting at the quay in Port Roenne. The Baltic Sea offers much calmer conditions compared to the North Sea, so the turbine installation at Baltic Eagle is expected to proceed smoothly, with all turbines likely to be installed within 3 to 4 months. We at Port Roenne has recently seen several successful projects, such as Kriegers Flak with the vessel Vole au Vent, which experienced record cycles as both load-out and turbine installation progressed swiftly throughout the project. A similar scenario is anticipated for the load-out on Baltic Eagle. Latest have we had the pleasure of installing monopiles, towers, blades and turbines for the Arcadis Ost project. It is always a great day when the first batch are shipped out for installation. 2023 was a stormy ride, but 2024 promises calmer seas for the global offshore wind industry 2024 starts with high hopes for the global offshore wind industry, aiming to navigate through the turbulence of the previous year with a record 65 GW of auctions on the horizon. In Germany, 2.5 GW of capacity beckons developers with a 'dynamic' bidding model, building on last year's success that saw BP and TotalEnergies clinch a notable 7 GW award. Additionally, later in the year, 5.5 GW of pre-investigated sites will be up for grabs, evaluated based on a combination of price and qualitative criteria. In the Baltics, Estonia, and Lithuania make waves in the offshore wind arena. Estonia launches pre-qualification for 2.9 GW of capacity, building on recent awards, while Lithuania unveils 700 MW of new capacity, bolstered by government support. From the world perspective, Japan charts its course towards its ambitious renewable energy targets, with 1.1 GW set to be auctioned off in its third round. This auction marks a pivotal step in Japan's quest to achieve 10 GW of offshore wind by 2030, followed by 30-45 GW by 2040, all in line with its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050. As these auctions set the stage for substantial offshore wind development, the industry anticipates smoother sailing ahead, buoyed by growing global momentum towards renewable energy and carbon reduction goals. I take my hat off to our head of Cruise, Yana Grundke, for her exceptional dedication to the cruise industry, which I've found unmatched. At Port of Roenne, we greatly benefit from Yana's committed efforts, as she consistently breaks records for Bornholm as a cruise destination. Despite the often criticized nature of the cruise business, it's essential to recognize its significant contribution to the local economy. Studies indicate that many guests who experience our destination through cruises return for more extended stays. Currently, Yana is again representing us on the global stage, this time in Gothenburg, a vital yet not always glamorous endeavor. It entails long, relentless days filled with countless meetings. Fortunately, there's a sense of family within the industry, fostering national and international collaboration. Thus, traveling feels somewhat like returning home. Thank you immensely, Yana, for your tremendous dedication and the many days spent away from home. Picture: Yana in the middle, accompanied by two of her colleagues from other destinations.
