"Some do contain prohibited substances. It is important for athletes to be careful when checking their medications. The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has issued an updated warning regarding the risk of Peripheral Neuropathy Associated with Vitamin B6 Supplements The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) warns about the dangers of excessive intake of vitamin B6 in health supplements. The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) issued a recent warning regarding the risk of peripheral neuropathy associated with excessive intake of vitamin B6 in health supplements. The HSA updated the maximum allowable limit for vitamin B6 in supplements to 100mg/day for adults. This is due to an increase in reports of cases of peripheral neuropathy associated with excessive consumption of vitamin B6 from the use of several health supplements containing vitamin B6 simultaneously. Peripheral neuropathy is a condition characterized by a tingling, burning, or numb sensation, usually in the hands or feet. Although the exact reason causing peripheral neuropathy has not been clearly established at this stage, reported cases show that the symptoms usually disappear after discontinuing use of the product. The Federal Trade Commission is cracking down on unsubstantiated product claims, meaning health and wellness brands can no longer exaggerate the effects of their products without recourse. Products from over-the-counter drugs to "functional foods" to supplements must back up their claims with "reliable evidence." Looks can deceive, and it's more important now than ever that brands in the health and wellness space show that transparency and authenticity are a priority. This, of course, is a welcome development, as authenticity has proven to be a powerful connector between brands and consumers. #wellnessmarketing #healthandwellness #healthmarketing

Health Canada wants to make significant regulatory changes to natural health products (NHPs). Let it be known that Health Canada already has oversight over NHPs. Many products you use every day like toothpaste, vitamins, sunscreen and deodorant are issued a NPN (natural product number) that must be approved by Health Canada and submitted with associated fees. Health Canada wants to dramatically increase costs and over-regulate the industry, unnecessarily treating natural health products like pharmaceutical drugs. What does this mean for you? ☞ Small, local businesses will be priced out of business – essentially limiting product choice and forcing Canadians to shop in unregulated markets (ex. USA) ☞ Over 75% of brands say there is a very high chance they will need to pull product from the market. This means empty shelves and out-of-stock issues for many of your favourite products ☞ New regulations will increase the amount of packaging (for the same amount of product), reducing recyclability and adversely impacting the environment ☞ Increased prices – many brands will be forced to increase their prices to offset costs of operating in Canada You can help Save Our Supplements.
