The 9 Hottest Moments of Colin Farrell

A funny thought struck me as I watched Colin Farrell tear up a dystopian computer world in Total Recall: The 36-year-old actor has looked pretty much the same -- albeit very hot -- since we first took notice of him more than a decade ago, even if he's tried on a few different hairstyles to throw us off. That's quite a feat, and one with plenty of photographic evidence. Join us as we look back on Farrell's nine hottest moments as a nervy screen star. We begin with a magazine cover that demands way too much of your attention.

9. Interview magazine is pleased to introduce us to Colin Farrell, shirtless QB.

In 2000, we got our first definitively delicious slice of shirtless Farrell in Interview magazine, where the new actor mugged in a photo shoot and wielded a football. Those are two of my favorite activities, personally.

8. Miami Vice proved he was blazer-ready.

Colin may not have been the most obvious pick for a Don Johnson scion in the movie version of Miami Vice, but his furrowed-brow grit filled out his well-blazered ensemble perfectly.

7. Ondine gives you rugged, alternative rocker-haired Colin.

In 2009, Colin played a recovering alcoholic with long, oily hair in Ondine. It's the male version of what Anne Hathaway did in Rachel Getting Married. If you forgive the fact that he really is a doppelganger for Creed lead singer Scott Stapp here, he works his bob successfully.

6. Pride and Glory proved that Colin is uniform-ready.

Pride and Glory is a surprisingly dark drama that I wouldn't necessarily recommend, but I do recommend Mr. Farrell for always wearing a cop uniform. Smokin'.

5. Any black tie affair? Is-a-fair.

Thank God Colin won a Golden Globe for his work in In Bruges, because his natty ensemble was a culmination of all his spotless red carpet work. The man looks great at formal events, and he looks smashing in that blue patterned vest.

4. Flaxen in Alexander

Sure, I lump Alexander in with Troy, the either epic stinker of 2004, but you have to credit the expansive Alexander the Great flick credit for two things: 1) daring to make Colin Farrell a blond bombshell, and 2) daring to make Alexander the Great look like the original Ryan O'Neal.

3. Total Recall? More like... totally, recallably hot. Or something.

Total Recall is one of those gray-tinged sci-fi adventures that would make a great Vertical Horizon video, but what shocked me about it was how much shirtlessness it dished. Mr. Farrell's body has never been better, and he looks dapper and cool when sparring against Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel.

2. Fright Night's All Right for Biting

Frankly, this is what I'm talking about: Colin Farrell's dashing good looks barely conceal his slickness, and in Fright Night, he plays a fang-sportin' vampire who scares the hell out of you. I thought I couldn't stand to see another vampire again, but Colin's version of the old Halloween trope is delectable.

1. You've never seen Tigerland, but you'll be glad you saw this.

Tigerland didn't do major box office -- or close to any box office -- in 2000, but it afforded Mr. Farrell the chance to play the kind of character that suits him best: a cocky soldier with no respect for authority. There's just something about a dog tag that says, "I am sure I'm hot." Jake Gyllenhaal in Jarhead, anyone? Right.
