The Massachusetts State Lottery player who won $1 million during Monday night’s Powerball drawing told the lottery her friend had encouraged her to buy a ticket for that night’s drawing.
Tiffany Brown, of Dorchester, won $1 million on Sept. 18, when her Quic Pic, computer-generated Powerball ticket matched the first five numbers in the $638 million jackpot drawing on Monday night.
Brown claimed her $1 million prize before taxes on Wednesday at lottery headquarters in her hometown. She bought the ticket at Supreme Liquors, at 506 Geneva Ave. in the city, after her friend told her to buy a ticket because the jackpot was so big, Brown told the lottery.
Supreme Liquors will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
There have been no Powerball winners since July 19, when the $1.08 billion jackpot was won on a ticket sold in California. If there is a winner on Wednesday, Sept. 20, with the jackpot at an estimated $672 million, it would be the tenth-largest jackpot in Powerball history.
Tickets to play Powerball cost $2 each and will be sold until 9:50 p.m. in Massachusetts on Wednesday ahead of the drawing at 10:59 p.m. Powerball can be played in 45 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
