UFC on FOX 20 results: Felice Herrig chokes out Kailin Curran in the first round

Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

"Lil Bulldog" is back.

Felice Herrig (11-6) returned to the Octagon after being out of action for over a year and submitted Kailin Curran (4-3) at UFC on FOX 20 earlier tonight (Sat. July 23, 2016). Herrig locked up a rear-naked choke in the opening round to earn the victory inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

The official time of the stoppage came at 1:59 of round one.

After a few early exchanges, Herrig, 31, caught the kick of Curran and landed her first takedown of the fight. The end would come only moments later. In a scramble, Herrig took the back of the Hawaiian and immediately hunted a rear-naked choke. Curran fought it off for as long as she could, but eventually succumbed to the choke and tapped out.

A huge and impressive win for Herrig, a Chicago native, after a long layoff. She improves to 2-1 in the UFC. The win was Herrig's first since a submission win over Lisa Ellis back in December of 2014.

Curran drops to 1-3 in the UFC in defeat.
