Milo Manara: Vie d'artiste

Sep 22, 2023 - Sep 30, 2023

This is the first time that France has been treated to an exhibition of work by the celebrated Italian artist Milo Manara, whose entire output (comic work, paintings, drawings and illustrations) the Huberty & Breyne gallery has been representing since 2012. The exhibition offers viewers an exclusive opportunity to acquaint themselves with Manara’s most recent creations, including an exceptional series of new illustrations depicting the metamorphoses of Zeus for the opening, in October, of the 2023-2024 season at the Teatro Pergolesi, in Jesi (Italy), together with pages from the artist’s new album, Le Nom de la Rose (a two-volume adaptation of the novel by Umberto Eco, due out from Éditions Glénat next September).

From eroticism to science fiction and historical narrative, working solo or in collaboration with Hugo Pratt, Frederico Fellini, Alejandro Jodorowsky or Umberto Eco, over the years Milo Manara (born in Luson, Italy, in 1945) has created an oeuvre that is world renowned and which draws on the artist’s abiding passion for beautiful tools and beautiful paper, and for different techniques capable of breathing life into an image (sequential or otherwise). Manara’s images have nothing to do with fashion: elegant and a touch enigmatic, they possess an utterly timeless quality.
