Considerable fan la created on our streets every day, by the appearance ofourfrlend Gen. When the goose misses his friend for any length of time, hecrowavtry uneasy, and halla his appearance with every manifestation of delight. The other day, we heard a school boy talklngof aflght In which he had Interfered to aave a small boy from a pounding. One ot his auditors asked him what he did to the other boy. Last May, when almost everybody was abusing Pomeroy, and crying Crucify him!" we under, took to speak a kind word for blm asserting that ho was not the original corrupter of Kansas politics; that If he did bribe men, it was after they had offered themselves to be bribed and that he ought to be acquitted. This excited the displeasure of a cranky lndhlduak who had a deep interest in the political welfare of Kansas, and he forthwith posted us the following note "DeakSol: Bo kind enough to stop my paper, from date. My reason Is. that your article on Mr. S.

This ordinance waa published in the Ci Thursday morning, and by noon the auctiun was being boxed up to "skin out." An Ethiopian waa aent around town by some one, with a bell, proclaim ing that the auction waa "busted." We do not know whether their law casea are finally aettled or not. Here is another illustration of the benefit of patronizing the Chief.

This ordinance waa the first publication the City of Troy ever made In our paper. Ibey had been lawisg and passing ordinances foraeveral weaks, but were baffled all the time. Finally they published an ordinance in the Chuf, and as soon aa the paper waa out, the concern laid down the spoons, without another kick. Petit Jl bobs. MsDJer get a few bumps on his head not located by phrenologists, and which came near spoiling his Rafierty bump. rjy There will be a meeting of the County Board, next Mopdav, Mirch 1st Patronise Heme. This Is a very old subject, but the advice la aa good now aa It ever was. It la a text from which we preach consistently; for we never In out life bought a dlme'a worth of goods at an auction, and for twelve years we hare not sent away from home for an article of goods that we could get at home, except It waa taken inpayment of work which we received from abroad. The people of any community are alike interested In ita prosperity.

They are all there together, and must rise or fall with it, or hunt np a new location. Every dollar spent with heme dealers, merchants or laborers, adda to the prosperity oi a town. The man who resides here, in, vests every dollar ypu give blm at home, except what la necessary to be spent away to replenish his stock. The peddlers or auctioneers who come among you, carry away every dollar you spend with them, except what is barely necessary to defray theirexpenses while here. But many ininK mat the merchant's profits are large they can understand how it is that the auction store can afford to sell so very much lower, and still make a profit.

But there is not much mystery about that. The home merchant carefully selects his goods, and looks to their quality. When you go to buy of him, you teat every article, take it to the light, rub It and pull it, and try Its quality by every test 3 ou know. The auction man, with a sprinkle of good articles, fills in with damaged goods, remnants, and unseasonable fabrics, that he can buy for a mere seng. In the auction room, with Its crowd and jam, yon havo no opportunity to test goods, or to carefully look at them you must take them pell mclL aa they come.

Ton may hit up on a good bargain or you may get such a bargain as a pair of slippers composed of a Xo.5 and aXo.7, of two different styles. Then, the merchant has to pay rent, and taxes to supjsirt tho schools where your children are edu eated, and to carry on the machinery of the Government. The auction store haa no fixed resldeuce, pays no taxes ex cept a small license, and hare bat a trifling rent to pay. where they stop. The mechsnlc or laboring man would call the merchant a Tery mean man, who would employ the home mechanic or laborer to do Iittlu jobs of cobbling and latching, and let him charge it, but when he had a good cash job, would take it away to the city, where he could sal a few cents.

Ia It not Just as bad fur the other side to do the same "We hare licart. a crett (leal about merchant being hard on customers, drl- sharp bargains, ami ortpirsaing the poor. Xo doubt there are some mean men tmonff them bat a a rule, merchants are Any man who shown a to help himself, anil to raj-his honest debts, can get credit at rooht of the stores and bnt few are oppressed, who show a disposition to be and industrious. In nine cases out of ten, where 3 ou hear of a merchant oppressing the poor. 3 ou mill find that tho poor who are being impressed are "poor shoats men who lore loafing bitter than work, and who resort to every subterfugo to escape pacing their honest debts.

"When a man has a long credit account at a store, for necessary articles purchased fur bis family; who gathers up all the spare change he can earn or borrow, to patronize some auction that cornea along; and wbe, when that Is gone, sneaks back to the merchant asking him for more credit, what more can be eipect than an Indignant refusal, and a demand to -settle np old scores I People are prone to run after everything new that cornea along. If a newcomer be a person who proposes settling in the community, for a pi mien eat business, it is right to encourage blm but if be is merely flitting about to carry off hat he can from home traders, be Is not entitled to patronage. There arc two printing ofhees lu Troy; yet if some travelling "rat" should come along on wheels, we have no doubt that men who could never bo induced to bare a letterhead, card or billhead printed at home, would discover that they needed all those articles and would give Mr. Go cart their patronage. It ia the samo with every other branch of buslutss.

Tho only true policy Is for embody to pztronize home, even if it costs a few cents more to do so. SlTaOjE Col ht Decisions- In the last published Su preme Court Syllabi, we find the dlowing two cases from Douiphsn County. They arc both reversals of tho decisions of the District Court. "WK Told You So When the Brown County Adeoeate was started at Hiawatha, a few months ago, our readers will remember that we notified the pnblic that the publisher was a first-class dead beat, and gave warning to keep an eye peeled for blm. For this favor, we had an extra amount of re-hashed f-rtilitlog material projected at ua by said dead beat, who, in addition, undertook to run the election in thia County, and to tell our people what paper they ought to patronize. The last numbor of the Adroeate comes to us devoid of its usual dose of "Slum," but has a deal more of common sense and sound principle. Upon looking for the cause of the change, we find that Burger IEoberts are the editors and publishers and we further find the following notice at the bead of the local column, which goea to prove that they have discovered the troth of the Chief's estimate of "bug-eye:" "All persons are notified not to settle any 'AdroeaW accounts with Mr.
