Former cricketer Thisara Perera slams Cricket Selectors

Former cricketer Thisara Perera has slammed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) selectors for the downfall of the sport of cricket in Sri Lanka.

Speaking during an interview, Perera claimed that several senior cricketers including himself had been sidelined by the authorities.

“The selectors who were appointed in 2021 are those who did not understand stats, and who themselves have not performed that well for Sri Lanka during their tenure. SLC had three selectors who didn’t understand the importance of senior cricketers,” he said.

Thisara Perera said their lack of understanding paved the way for senior cricketers to be sidelined and make unsuitable selections.

“The issue here is a lack of sense for selection. There were so many well-performing players in the Lanka Premier League. However, none of them were selected for the World Cup squad. I do not understand their selection process,” he said.

The former cricketer said it is obvious that the selectors did not prioritise providing chances for talented and suitable cricketers during the World Cup campaign, adding that favouritism of certain cricketers does exist within the selectors.

Stating that the current selection committee will never provide chances for senior cricketers, Thisara Perera said he is willing to make a comeback and play for another year or two only if a new group of selectors are appointed by the authorities. (NewsWire)
