The Champs-Elysées are seen clearly as a map from the top of the impressive Arc de Triomphe, the high point of the Champs-Elysées commissioned by Napoléon.
Twelve avenues radiate from the Arc de Triomphe, forming one of the most spectacular urban planning project in the city. The most famous of these twelve avenues are the Champs-Elysées, Avenue de la Grande Armée leading to La Defense business district and Avenue Foch, the most fancy residential avenue in the City of Lights.
Look towards the Champs-Elysées Avenue and the Louvre Museum 5km east on a straight line. Look towards La Défense 5 km west. Look towards the imposing Eiffel Tower at a distance. This is altogether one of the top 360° panoramic views of Paris.
The famous Avenue Montaigne is the Haute Couture avenue of Paris. It connects the Champs-Elysées Avenue to the Seine River, altogether a ten minute walk.
Whereas the Champs-Elysées shops are mostly mainstream fashion brand stores, Avenue Montaigne retains its dedication to luxury. Many high end fashion brands have a flagship store on Avenue Montaigne.
Avenue Montaigne is famous for Dior flagship store at number 30. Christian Dior, the French fashion designer, founded there Dior Haute Couture on December 16th 1946.
Facts about Avenue Montaigne
A trip to the city wouldn’t be complete without a stop in Louis Vuitton’s flagship store on Champs-Elysées. This isn’t the largest Louis Vuitton’s store in the world. Shanghai store is bigger. But it’s the most visited and most successful luxury brand store in the city and altogether in the world.
Opened in 2005, the store’s design by Carnondale alone is worth a visit, never mind all the beautiful bags, shoes, couture clothes and exquisite jewels. The design concept included demolishing the existing interior floor slabs and wrapping the Champs-Elysées shopping avenue inside the building by re-constructing a continuous 4-level spiral of shopping terraces. Visitors never need to walk up or down traditional stairways and are in constant contact with the products and views of Paris. The dome of the Art Deco facade rises high above the avenue. The 1914 building is listed as a Historical Monument.
