Fun With Leaves: Leaf Prints, Patterning with Leaves, Make Your Own Leaf Man

A forest is a large area covered with trees. They are home to many different types of trees, plants and creatures. If you were to take a walk in the forest you might see lots of leaves have fallen from the trees to the forest floor. Leaves have their own particular shape depending on what type of tree that they come from. Redbud trees, for example, have leaves that look like an upside down heart, while maple tree leaves have lots of points. Gather a few leaves from your backyard, local park or forest and let’s use them to have some fun!

Create a Leaf Print

Grab your favorite leaf and paint one side of it. Then place it paint side down on a piece of paper to create a beautiful leaf print.

Pattern Practice with Leaves:

Sort the leaves that you found out by shape or color. Then practice patterning by lining them up in a specific order. Some patterns you might try are ABAB, AABAAB, or ABCABC. Can you think of your own unique pattern?

Make a Leaf Friend

Use the leaves that you found to create a leaf friend. You’ll need a small leaf for the head, a large leaf for the body and a few skinny leaves to make arms and legs. What will you name your leaf friend?
