Natalie Portman is dishing about her royal family encounter at 1999 London premiere of Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, and it’s pretty funny because the meeting was rather awkward. Fans have Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen to thank for asking the 42-year-old actress to recall this moment in time because it feels right on brand for the then-Prince Charles.

When Cohen asked Portman to share a story about meeting the royal family, she dusted off this humorous tale about Charles. “I remember Prince Charles asked me — he was then Prince Charles — if I was in the originals,” she laughed. Let’s just remember that the very first Star Wars movie came out in 1977, so that might have been a bit hard for Portman to do, considering she was born in 1981. “I was like, ‘I’m 18,'” she replied to the then-Prince of Wales. She noted that he was “very friendly,” so it was likely that he was just trying to welcome her to London and make small talk even though the conversation felt a bit out of touch.

Portman was grateful for having the opportunity to portray Padmé Amidala in the three prequels to Stars Wars, including Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. She called it an “amazing” experience because “it was the first time [she] had shot digitally.” The May December star added, “I don’t think anyone was shooting that way then. It was the first time working with a green screen. It was a whole new set of skills to pick up.”

If anyone is hoping that Portman’s Star Wars character shows up in a future installment, they might be out of luck for now. “No … no one has asked me, but I’m open to it,” she replied. Perhaps her royal pal Charles could put a word in for her now that he’s the king.
