Barbadoes Gooseberry is a unique vining cactus. The cactus can be either trellised or allowed to bush out creating a living fence. the leaves are edible though somewhate astrengant and the fruit is also edible does not have much flavor so I put this one in the ornamental category. However, though ornamental the plant has a unique look giving a differnet texture among your other plants. the plant itself recoveres quickly from frosts but will die back during freezes depending on how long the freeze lasts. Our worst freeze lasted 8hrs and everything above 6" from the ground died back however this was left completley exposed to the elements if minor protection was given im sure that it would have done much better.
