A THEME park in Europe is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year - and you've probably never heard of it.

Liseberg opened in Gothenburg in 1923 and attracts around 3million tourists a year.

However, Liseberg CEO Andreas Anderson said British tourists were around two per cent of the market, but said it will be "unusually affordable" this year due to the "strong pound".

Inside the theme park is more than 40 rides, including six rollercoasters such as Helix, Liseberg and Valkyria, Europe's longest dive coaster.

The wooden rollercoaster Balder has twice been voted the best wooden rollercoaster in the world.

Opening this year is a boomerang rollercoaster Luna, which is the tallest and fastest of its kind with top speeds of 68km/h.

Other rides include mirror mazes, dodgems, and a number of spinning and swing rides.

There are lots of kids' rides, as well as botanical gardens, arcades and horror mazes.

You aren't short of food options - there is the Mei Rose roof terrace with amazing views of the park as well as the Saluhallen food market.

The theme park has even attracted live performances from big names such as The Rollings Stones, Bob Marley and Led Zepplin.

The attraction has its own on-site hotel which opened this month.

The Liseberg Grand Curiosa has 457 family rooms, as well as a huge carousel and a slide from the second to the third floor.

On-site is the Compagniet speakeasy bar along with Cafe Agnes for snacks such as freak shakes and pastries.

If you don't fancy a hotel, you can rent a cabin or even a nearby campsite right next to the beach.

And next year, a new water park called Oceana will open, with wave pools, sandy beaches and 14 rides.

However, winter is one of the best times to visit as the park opens with a Christmas Market, with previous tourists saying it was better than ones in the UK.

While some of the rides are closed, there are lots of stalls along with reindeer and Satna visits.

You can also visit during Halloween, which one guest said was "better than Disneyland Paris".

The theme park is super easy to get to as well - flights from London to Gothenburg are under two hours, and the park is just 10 minutes by bus from the city centre.

Tickets start from £7.40 for entry to the park, although this doesn't include any of the rides - but you can buy ride coupons for £2 inside the park or unlimited ride pass tickets from £25.

If you want full access with rides, you can buy the All-in-one ticket for around £30.

Spain is also home to some amazing theme parks, one of which is right by the beach and much cheaper than Disneyland.
