Sonja Erika Lehto, 88, died on Thursday, April 18, 2019 in Bryson City, N.C. after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born September 4,1931 in Narpes, Finland. She met her husband in NYC, New
York and married April 25, 1954.
She was an avid gardener and bird watcher, enjoyed quilting, sewing and knitting and loved to cook and entertain family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, E. Melvin Lehto, partners in life and partners on the dance floor; her children, Mark (Margie) Lehto of Morrison, Ill. and Lisa (Ron) Chapman of Bryson City, N.C.; grandchildren, Kristin (Chris) Geerts of Bettendorf, Iowa, Adrianne (Carlo) Williams of Raleigh, N.C., Brooks (Rayette) Chapman of Bremen, Ga., Julie Lehto of Chicago Ill.; Tim Lehto of Fulton, Ill. and Eric Lehto of Albany, Ill.; great-grandchildren Jordan, Drew and Riley Geerts, Micah and Micayla Chapman, Eva Brenner and London Williams; siblings, Reinhold Soderroos and Henrik (Inga-Britt) Soderroos of Torshalla, Sweden, Anna Westlund of Sundsvall, Sweden and Gota Haggblom of Narpes, Finland; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services to be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday May 11, 2019 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1250 Lora Smith Road, Newnan GA 30265 presided by Rev. Gary Christianson. Visitation will start at 1pm.
