The Long Shadow continues on Monday, October 2 on ITV1 and ITVX. The harrowing drama depicts the desperate five-year hunt for serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, sensitively focusing on the lives of the victims who crossed his path and those of the officers at the heart of the police investigation.
Written by George Kay, ITV said The Long Shadow brings a "new perspective to a well-documented story," with the victims, their families, and the survivors at the heart of the series. The series has a star-studded cast list, including Toby Jones, David Morrissey, Katherine Kelly, Lee Ingleby, Jill Halfpenny, Jasmine Lee-Jones, Liz White, Daniel Mays and Charley Webb.
Actor Charley is known to millions as Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale. However, tonight she will appear on screens as WPC Anna Lawson, her first major role since her exit from the soap.

Sharing a glimpse of herself on set, Charley told her Instagram followers last week: "I'm extremely proud to be involved with the work that's been created in The Long Shadow. A harrowing story that has been told with such respect and sensitivity. A compelling tribute to the victims and their families, tonight 9pm on ITV & ITVX with the most incredibly talented team. George Kay and @lewisaea have created something extremely special."
Charley is known to many as Debbie Dingle, a role she played on Emmerdale for an incredible 19 years. Charley joined the soap in 2002 when she was just 14 and participated in some huge storylines until her exit.
Charley last appeared on Emmerdale in February 2021, after the actress returned from maternity leave just a few months earlier. The star officially confirmed her soap future on Instagram in January 2022, telling her followers: "This is always my most asked question but I've never answered it before because I've never wanted to make a big deal of it.
"I left to have Ace 2 years ago. I went back at the end of last year for 10 weeks to complete a storyline. So, I guess officially it's been a year. I never felt the need to announce it which is why we didn't."
And Charley is not the only famous face in her family, as both her husband and her brother are involved in the wonderful world of soaps. Charley's older brother is Jamie Lomas, who mosts fans know for his role as Warren Fox in Hollyoaks.
Jamie, who came runner-up on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2017, also played the role of Jake Stone in EastEnders. Charley is married to Matthew Wolfenden who has played David Metcalfe on Emmerdale since 2006, although it was recently confirmed that he would be exiting the show in a storyline that has yet to be confirmed. Charley and Matthew, who met on set in the noughties, tied the knot in 2018 and share three sons together, Buster, Bowie Grey, and Ace.
