A neat, small plant that grows on calcareous soil in damp conditions, swamps, wetlands and ditches.

Flowers

The 5-petalled flowers with blue anthersupper fertile part of the stamen containing the pollen are cup-shaped, fused together to half-way.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Spatulate broad end of the leaf tapers to the point of connection with the plant stem. Rosette of oval to spoon-shaped leaves, with alternate stem leaves.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: round, 3 mm, with 5 strongly reflexed valves to release the many seeds.
