Louisville woman waits a week to check her lottery ticket, wins $50K
A Louisville woman won big on the lottery, but she didn't know it for a week. According to Kentucky lottery officials, Nicole Workman won $50,000 on an $8 Powerball, but she didn't check the ticket until a week after she bought it.Workman said she got her ticket on June 5 at the Kroger on North Hubbards Lane. She went last week and scanned her ticket at Kroger. That's when she saw $50,000 appear on the monitor. “I was like, ‘What, is this real?’ I went through, and I had to (scan) it again. Oh my gosh, I couldn’t believe it," Workman said. “I took a picture really quick. This is not a joke!"Workman said she went online to the Kentucky Lottery’s website later that night to pull up the winning numbers. “When I saw my numbers there, it was extra validation,” she said.She ended up taking home the game's third prize.“This was an answer to some prayers we were needing,” Workman said.The Kroger where the winning ticket was purchased will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.She received a check from lottery headquarters Friday for $35,750 after taxes. Workman told officials she and her husband had recently undergone some home repairs, so the extra money will be put towards those expenses.
