Penelope Cruz Has a ‘Sacred Rule’ Involving Her & Javier Bardem’s Children

Despite being one of the biggest stars in the world, Penelope Cruz keeps her and her husband Javier Bardem’s family life as private as possible. Despite the two welcoming two kids a decade ago, many don’t even know they have two children, and there’s a specific reason why.

In a recent interview with Elle Spain, Cruz talked about her “sacred rule” when it comes to her and Bardem’s children. Specifically, she talks about the rule she and Bardem have for raising kids as two A-listers, and it involves keeping them away from the public eye as much as possible.

“I have a sacred rule and that is that we do not talk about them,” she said, revealing why she and Bardem rarely, if ever, talk about their family of four.

She added, “If one day they have a job facing the public, well, they will have to learn to deal with that. But right now it’s not time, they are just two children whom we absolutely protect.”

Cruz and Bardem have been together since 2007, after working together on the films Jamón jamón and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. They married in July 2010 and have since welcomed two children named Leo Encinas, born in Jan 2011, and Luna Encinas, born in July 2013.

In another super-rare interview with Vogue Spain via Hello, she confessed her love for motherhood. “The most radical change I have ever lived has been becoming a mother,” she said. “Your life is hugely altered in that moment, much more than with any other type of project. Motherhood is the priority of my life.”
