Lockheed Martin delivered the first multiple launch rocket system M270A2 launcher to the U.S. Army.

This delivery represents a significant milestone for Lockheed Martin as the modernized system will support the Army and allied partners for decades to come.

“Our award-winning Camden facility continues to produce world-class vehicles, and this newest M270A2 launcher will continue our legacy of combat-proven reliability,” Lockheed Martin said in a statement.

Lockheed Martin, in partnership with the Red River Army Depot, is upgrading M270 MLRS with a brand new 600 horsepower engine, an Improved Armored Cab, and Common Fire Control System (CFCS).

This upgrade provides compatibility with future munitions like the Extended-Range GMLRS and the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM).

The M270 A2 mobile tracked launcher can be transported via transport aircraft.

The enhanced MLRS M270A2 launcher can engage and relocate at high speed, dramatically reducing an adversary’s ability to locate the system.

The general layout of the M270A2 is very similar to the original M270 and is mounted on the same tracked chassis.

The cabin of the A2 version is higher and has reinforced armor to increase protection.

The M270A2 is equipped with a new launcher and can fire GMLRS-ER (Extended Range Guided) guided missiles. The GMLRS-ER provides an increased range of up to 150 kilometers.

As previously reported, according to the contract, the American company received a modification contract worth $32,979,835.

In general, the M270 is a proven 227-mm rocket launcher system produced by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.
