I bought this collection, because I was really in the mood to play some retro 2-player games with friends when they came over. If all that was offered was the ability to play a bunch of games, I would have been happy. What we get is is a trip down nostalgiaville. The menu is the first cool thing to see: a 90's kids bedroom, where you can look at the Genesis 50 game collection, TV settings, Genesis settings, audio settings, network gameplay, leaderboards, a realtime clock, and appropriate outdoor sound effects reflecting the time of day. The game collection is solid. And with 50 games there's a lot of fun to be had. They could have just presented the games in their original graphics, but, once again, they offered more than they had to! You can see it in its pure original form, add scan lines for nostalgia, add more pixels to enhance the graphics, yet keeping that pixelated look, smooth the pixels, smooth the pixels and clean up lines and edges (anti-aliasing), go from 4:3 to 16:9 (some of the image gets lost to make that conversion though), play the game in mirror mode from right to left. I spent way too much time playing with these settings, and for someone that grew up playing Genesis in their childhood, these settings bring a lot of replay value, and it's really neat to me to be able to see these games cleaned up. Oh! And there's more! There's a list of challenges, so if you want to do something quick and fun, and not play a whole game, you can do a challenge (like to try to beat a certain level in a certain time limit). You can save, so you don't have to beat the game in one sitting. And there's a cool rewind and fast forward mode, so if you do something you regret and don't want to start over, or reload, you can rewind right before things went wrong and try again. Excellent excellent excellent treatment of classic games. If you're into retro 16 bit games, or grew up playing Genesis games and would like to play them on your PS4, this comes highly recommended!

I think Sega should have put Phantasy Star 1 in this collection. But if you compare it to the Atari pack it really is more than just one game you can enjoy on a better controller so it is a good collection of games and not just one...

I find it a bit perplexing trying to work out if a younger person might like this or not. I was about 13 when the Sega megadrive was around. The games looked ridiculous by today's standards. Video games make graphics look almost real now. The quality that existed in those old video games was a simple but very involving storyline, and gameplay that was easy and fun. Like I said, 2 buttons!
But consider a few things. Mainly value for money. Look at how many games you get for the price of one. Look at the selection and range of games. Pretty incredible.
To date I have only really played streets of rage. I loved that game so much I don't know how many times I beat it. Now I have all three of them and will happily play them over and over. But I remember shinobi, loved it, and of course sonic. Some of the other games i will be discovering or rediscovering. But really it's simple minded fun at it's best.
And I love the introductory screen looking just like an old bedroom from the 1990s. A nice touch.

For those who have been longtime fans of the Sega Genesis, this is a treat for you. All your favorites crammed into one game disc. Collecting such classic game serials such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and more, each game has been brilliantly remastered in high definition and looks almost as good as new. I recommend this collection of goodies any day!

This is unfortunate. I just played the Sega Genesis Collection last night and there is definitely a great deal of input lag.

This is most defitely due to the emulation code and not the HD display or controller itself.
Some games seem worse than others (Sonic), though that could be due to the nature of the game.

I had high hopes for this collection, seeing how Sega had recently been working with the best in the emulation-to-modern-console field, M2, but M2 this is NOT. :(

I game on a PlayStation 24" 120Hz 3D Display, which has relatively low latency. I also have a PS3, Super Nt (FPGA based SNES), AVS (FPGA NES/FC), and a Model 1 Genesis system (via YPbPr cables). And those work great, even with Bluetooth wireless controllers on the NES/SNES.

I also have quite a few other emulated games on the PS4, such as the Namco games, NAM-1975, Neo-Turf Masters, and many more, and they run great.
On the other hand I bought the Metal Slug Anthology PS2 Classic on the PS4 and that has the same bad lag as the Genesis Collection. Though that's going through 2 layers of emulation (Neo•Geo to PS2, PS2 to PS4), so I suppose I expected it to not be perfect.

Oh, and there are also other issues here. Occasionally the video will stutter, and there is quite a bit of sound emulation issues where you can hear audible pops and other noise artifacts going on.

This is unacceptable for a 30 year old game console being emulated on a PlayStation 4! Sega had it perfected with their M2 developed emulation, why didn't they stick with that?
So yes, this is extremely disappointing. I really hope Sega fixes these issues!

If they can fix these serious game breaking issues with a patch I will be sure and update my review. Otherwise this is a 1 star game and I DO NOT recommend it at this time. Stick with last gen's Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, or a real Genesis system.

1.0 out of 5 stars A nice deal on a great selection of classics is totally ruined by horrible input latency and buggy sound emulation.. Too bad. :(

Whoa! Just the interface where you choose your game to play, its a retro room a gamer kid from the 80's would have. It's so great the way they did that. You can browse your games in your desk , play games full screen but you can also play from the retro TV in the room meaning it feels like your sitting in front of that TV and playing. Its really great. And almost for me anyhow, the 50 games are almost all the ones I loved! Great classics here!
