Aileen Wuornos, Hardly the Moster the Media Makes Her
This is a pretty good documentary that goes a long way to show how Aileen Wuornos was a hapless individual who had an abysmal childhood, and was taken advantage of by almost everyone she encountered. As for the so called legal process, regardless of what really happened between her and those she killed, she was afforded zero defense, and sent to the death chamber with little in the way of any fighting chance of securing so much as life in prison. Everyone got their piece of her, and collected the money they got for selling those pieces for what they could get. I would strongly advise getting the sequel to this documentary, Aileen Wuornos: Life and Death of a Serial Killer, the 2002 interviews, as it provides the rest of the story. Lee Wuornos makes a great point when she says ... Alternately, how many guys a year do you think try to get rough with a streetwalker, and try to rape and rob her? Her story holds water. Too bad it was never presented in a court room.

I bought this DVD because I feel sort of sad for Aileen. If people knew her real story she may not hae been so ostracized by society. She was labeled "America's First Female Serial Killer. She wasn't. There was a woman is the 1800"s that ran a boarding house that killed her tenants and stole their money that was sent by family members. She also had her older male tenants make their wills out to her and then she killed them. There was another one at the turn of the century in the early 1900's. There was another one in the 1920's. There was another one, her last name was Noe. She killed 8 of her 10 infants from the 1950's to 1969. She adnitted to it in a confession to police and did not do one day in prison. She's on probation until 2019. Aileen got a raw deal and was obviously mentally ill. She should've been given life without parole, put on meds and studied. The couple who "adopted" her only did it for notoriety and money. No one can really know what someone's life is like unless you lived it. Oly Aileen lived her life. No one really knows what happened between the 7 guys she killeed and her. No one was there except her and the guy. Do I think all 7 tried to rape her? Absoluely not. In the movie "Monster" I think only one tried. The first one. The other 6 were clearly murdered. All these recordings of Aileen clearly show she had mental health illnesses. They're full of rantings, ravings, babbling and lying. In the confession she gave to police it shows on this tape she goes from laughing to crying quickly. That's indicitive of being Bipolar. All she wanted was a fair shot from the entire justice system and it failed her. So did everyone she knew. Her grandfather kicked her out of his house when she was 13 years old. She went to live with a neighbor or an aunt. They kicked her out at 14. She was living on the streets at 14 years old. I wonder how any other female would've fared under those same circumstances. I honestly feel like I'm missing something from my life because I never had the honor of meeting her and I feel badly because I never had the chance to help her change her life around. I've never felt that way about anyone except I wish I could've met Abraham Lincoln. This DVD and others of her are a small way to try to figure out what could've made her do it. She kept saying rape and I don't think robbing them had much to do with it. It was either her girlfriend wanting money money money or Aileen was using these guys as replacements to the family members that did her wrong. Yes, some did her real dirty. That's been proven. I watch everything about her over and over and read about her over and over. It's not because we're both women. I don't swing her way either. It's because she got a raw deal and no one cared about her. Her girlfriend Tyra never spoke to her ever again. Just dropped her like a piece of trash. People need to open their eyes, minds, hearts and spirits before passing judgement on some of these people that commit crimes. Yes, she was a murderer, but she also had a limited education and mental health illnesses. She could've thought because one guy tried to rape her that all men are rapists. Who knows what she thought? No one was there but her and the guy she planned on killing. There is no need for judgement because no one knows when it just might be you or a family member one day that kills someone for some odd reason, home invasion, self defense, drunk driving. And you get a raw deal.
